- In 2002, 64 percent of business owners had at least some college education at the time they started or acquired ownership in their business, 23 percent had a bachelor’s degree and 17 percent had a graduate degree. Just over 1-in-4 owners had a high school education or less.
- Thirty-one percent of owners were more than 55 years of age, 29 percent were between 45 and 54, and 24 percent were between 35 and 44. Only 2 percent of owners were less than 25 years of age.
- Fourteen percent of business owners in 2002 were veterans; 73 percent of those operated with no paid employees. Nearly 7 percent of veteran business owners were disabled as a result of injury incurred or aggravated during active military service.

I love reading stats, so this post is really interesting. I would like to see the percent of people in the US that own a business though so I could better compare.
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea! starting my own business! now if only i could come up with an idea as to what i can provide better than anyone else that a large number of people would actually pay for! Hey sergio, maybe you could provide a link for business ideas or an idiot's guide to starting a business or something like that. it's nice to be given the idea, it would be even cooler to be given instructions!!
ReplyDeleteThose stats are surprising. I didn't realize that one in four business owners started after high school. well, good job on being part of the 2% under 25 to be a business owner...and part of the 64% with some colles experience. Pretty soon you can rub elbows with the 23% with a degree. Congratulations..I only wish I had that success at such a young age! I agree that a how to start your won business would be very interesting. I have many people in my family who work for themselves/own a business and want to know if I have the skills to do it myself. Patience is another issue.
ReplyDeleteYeah, as Regan said, patience is a huge issue. I come from a family where my parent's managed their own business while my Dad also worked full time. As you can imagine, my Mom took on a lot of the responsibiliy. And as for myself, I've got several memories of being bored to death down at their business, a Jeep parts shop and yard. My parent's sold the shop eventually, which I believe was from the stress. However, the veteran stat is definitely believable because ever-since my parent's have been fishing to start a new, supposedly more simple business. I've heard things from ebay to picking up old cars for their reusable steel from my Dad.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY LIKE THE NEW LOOK!!! The heading/title block is perfect! GOOD JOB!
